As the election season enters its final weeks, Democrat Carolyn Long has released a new poll showing her creeping ahead of incumbent Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler in the race for Washington’s 3rd Congressional District.
The 17th Legislative District, which encompasses east Vancouver and unincorporated Clark County, has long been considered a swing district. The last time the district swung in 2014, Monica Stonier lost her position as a Democratic state representative.
As Rob Rich tells it, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, kicked off her relationship with the Pacific Northwest Waterways Association, of which he serves as president, with a flurry of notes and questions.
Both candidates running for Clark County treasurer agree on one thing: Democrat Doug Lasher, who is stepping down from the post after serving for eight terms, has done an admirable job. However, during an interview with The Columbian’s Editorial Board, both said there is room for improvement and each trumpeted their qualifications for the office.
