Clark County unemployment claims fall

Total continued claims went down slightly last week in Clark County, signaling a slow return of workers to the local job market.

Regular continued claims fell in line with the average for the past 12 weeks, according to the Washington Employment Security Department. Clark County residents filed 6,136 total claims: 1,110 from accommodations and food services, 704 from educational services, 593 from construction, and 507 from health care and social assistance.

In Washington, as a whole, residents filed 19,212 initial regular unemployment claims, which was a 29.2 percent decrease from the prior week, according to the Employment Security Department. The state received 468,801 total claims for all unemployment benefit categories, a drop of 9.1 percent from the prior week.
