Letter: Why not build a drawbridge?

There was an article on the front page of The Columbian on June 30 regarding the Coast Guard’s height requirements for a new Interstate 5 Bridge. It said the plans that are currently being reviewed don’t meet those requirements, but a new drawbridge would. Our national debt passed $30 trillion recently (it was about $1 trillion when I was in college, and about $15 trillion only 10 or 11 years ago) and since my recent 3 percent COLA is faring poorly against 9 percent inflation (so far), I was wondering how much a new drawbridge with four lanes would cost and if it would require tolls. I’d like to read an article about a new drawbridge. I’d like to read an article about a fiscally sound option.
