Prep basketball: Mark Morris girls snap Woodland’s 2A GSHL win streak

Mark Morris girls basketball snapped Woodland’s seven-game 2A Greater St. Helens League win streak, winning 53-45 on Tuesday at Longview in a game that could go a long way to deciding district playoff seeding.

Brooklyn Schlecht scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the second half as Mark Morris overcame a 26-21 halftime deficit. Her 3-pointer with 2:15 left in the third quarter gave the Monarchs a 35-33 lead, their first of the game.

Addi Stading scored 16 points and hit four 3-pointers for Woodland. Her final 3-pointer pulled the Beavers within 47-45 with 1:40 to play.

But Woodland’s final three possessions came up empty. That allowed the Monarchs (11-6, 9-3) to pass Woodland (11-5, 8-3) into second place in the 2A GSHL.

Mark Morris was the last 2A GSHL team to beat Woodland on Dec. 14, giving the Monarchs the tiebreaker should the teams finish even after league play ends Feb. 7.

UNION 77, PRAIRIE 34 — Brooklynn Haywood scored 30 points to lead the Titans to a non-league home win.

Haywood tied a school record by hitting eight of Union’s 16 3-pointers, matching a mark set by Mason Oberg and Abbey Kaip.

The freshman guard also had seven rebounds and six assists.

Alexandria Yelverton added 12 points and Ava Smith scored 11 points for Union (11-5).

Claire Smith scored 10 points to lead Prairie (8-7).

KELSO 47, BATTLE GROUND 32 — Madalynn Moe and Lexi Grumbois each scored 11 points to lead the Lassie to a non-league road win.

Grumbois had nine steals as Kelso (7-9) forced 38 turnovers.

Yvette Rosales scored eight points to lead Battle Ground (1-14).

SKYVIEW 55, EVERGREEN 39 — Skyview held Evergreen to one point in the second quarter and went on to win the non-league game.

Lainey Phillips had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Storm (11-4). Charlotte Baker added 13 rebounds and six points, while Jordan Labrador-Hallett had five points and eight assists.

Evergreen (11-5) had three players in double figures: Kimora Ross with 14 points, Adrian Wright 12, and Christina Nguyen 10.

SETON CATHOLIC 58, LA CENTER 20 — Anna Mooney had a triple-double and the Cougars dominated the second half in a Trico League home win.

Mooney had 11 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals. Hannah Jo Hammerstrom added 13 points and eight rebounds while Keira Williams scored 13 points.

Seton Catholic (16-1, 7-0) outscored La Center 35-6 in the second half.

Gianna D’Emilio scored eight points to lead the Wildcats (5-11, 3-4).

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 46, STEVENSON 28 — Ella Zimmerman scored 14 points and hit four 3-pointers as the Knights earned a home win.

Bridget Quinn and Kennady Broadbent each had nine points and five steals for King’s Way (8-7, 6-1). The Knights kept pace in the Trico League one game behind first-place Seton Catholic.

Sofia Spencer scored 10 points for Stevenson (5-11, 1-6). The Bulldogs trailed 22-19 at halftime but were held to nine points in the second half.

Boys basketball

CAMAS 80, MOUNTAIN VIEW 70 — Jamison Carlisle scored 22 points and Beckett Currie had 19 as the Papermakers held off a late charge by Mountain View.

Camas (13-4) led 65-46 after 21-9 third quarter surge, but the Thunder (10-5) made a surge of its own with a 24-15 fourth quarter.

Mountain View’s Jacob Martin and Isaiah Vargas combined in the fourth for 17 of those 24 points. Vargas led all scorers with 24 points and Martin finished with 16. Madden Wilson added 10.

Theo McMillan was also in double figures for Camas with 10 points.

SKYVIEW 71, EVERGREEN 44 — Demaree Collins scored 30 points in just three quarters, making seven 3-pointers, as Skyview won the non-league game at Evergreen.

A 24-6 third quarter blew the game open for Skyview (10-7).

Javen Fletch and Joshua Chatman each added 12 points for the Storm.

Fox Crader scored 10 points for Evergreen (7-11).

UNION 88, PRAIRIE 56 — Yanni Fassilis scored 21 points, Evan Manville added 18 points and the fast-starting Titans earned a non-league road win.

Union (11-6) scored 26 points in each of the first two quarters and led 52-19 at halftime.

Brendan Carter scored 15 points to lead Prairie (4-13).
